The widow of Dan Wheldon will wave the green flag for IndyCar’s season-opening race at St. Petersburg. Susie Wheldon will also participate in the pre-race activities at the March 24 Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg.
This helmet will be worn by Alex during the 2013 Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg race weekend. Alex approached WISH for OUR HEROES two weeks ago when Alex met SPC Charlie Lemon, a WISH for OUR HEROES volunteer and double-amputee (wounded in Iraq in 2009).
This year’s race weekend will have some special guests too, thanks to a new partnership. Former Army Specialist Charlie Lemon will deliver the famous words that signal the start of the race; ‘Gentlemen, start your engines.’

Singer, song-writer, producer, and actor Steve Scott has partnered with WISH for OUR HEROES in helping to grant wishes and assist military members around the U.S. Steve released ‘Have You Ever Known a Soldier?’, and he dedicated this song to helping as many military members as possible.

W4OH has been chosen by Warriors on Wheels, better known as WOW Cycling Club , as the beneficiary of this year’s “RIDE TEXAS”. RIDE TEXAS is a 5-day, 500-mile bike ride across the great state of Texas, beginning in Wichita Falls, Texas and ending in Corpus Christi, Texas on Veterans Day. This will be the third year for RIDE TEXAS.
