INDIANAPOLIS, IN – (AUGUST 24, 2010) – Phoenix-Wish For Our Heroes, a non-profit organization that grants wishes for active military, is pleased to announce the granting of it’s 50th wish since the foundation formed last November.
In just nine months, the young organization has granted a variety of wishes ranging from basic necessities to “fun” wishes such as travel, which have helped to reunite families, particularly after deployments. The total value of these wishes is approximately $80,000.
All of the wishes are submitted through the foundation’s website, and screened for legitimacy. A wish committee reviews the wishes and grants wishes based on urgency, need and other criteria, while working within the non-profit’s budget.
The 50th wish will be presented later this week at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, to SPC William Lestienne of the U.S. Army. SPC Lestienne had submitted a wish asking for help boosting morale among his unit that is currently deployed to Afghanistan. Wish For Our Heroes will be providing an Xbox and games (donated by Microsoft), as well as a large projector for gaming, movies and more.
“The majority of the wishes we grant focus on hardships, but wishes like this help on a different level because they really help with camaraderie among soldiers,” explained Jeff Wells, President and Founder of Wish For Our Heroes. “When we get requests from deployed soldiers in Afghanistan, we know our message is spreading to the people that need assistance the most. We can’t think of a better way to celebrate our 50th wish.”
Wish For Our Heroes strives to relieve hardship circumstances not covered by existing military charities. To help grant a wish or to find out more, visit www.wish4ourheroes.org .
