On August 9th, Angela Pena and the HUMOR FOR HEROES team once again hosted local military members, Wounded Warriors and San Antonio residents for a night filled with laughs, patriotism, and even more laughs! They also invited WISH for OUR HEROES back as the featured charity and beneficiary of their fundraising efforts. Prior to the start of the show, the Ancira family teamed up with Angela Pena and WISH for OUR HEROES team members to grant a very special wish for SPC Ernesto Garcia and his family.
SPC Garcia, stationed at Fort Sam Houston, and his family, demonstrate the toll military life can take on families. Their middle child, Lauro, has been severely disabled since birth and requires full-time attention. With the constant demands of caring for Lauro, the Garcia’s are forced to survive on only SPC Garcia’s salary. While they have enough to scrape by a monthly basis, when unexpected expenses arise, they simply don’t have enough to cover anything outside of basic living expenses. Throughout the last year, their family vehicle has had severe mechanical issues, which is a dire situation, because they rely upon the vehicle to transport Lauro back and forth to his many doctor appointments. If the vehicle breaks down and they’re stranded on the side of the road, it could place Lauro’s life in jeopardy.
Thanks to April Ancira and her phenomenal team at Ancira Chrysler-Jeep-Dodge, Angela Pena granted the Garcia family’s most urgent wish – to repair their family vehicle! The wish was granted at the start of HUMOR FOR HEROES event in San Antonio. SPC Garcia spent the following Saturday at Ancira Chrysler-Jeep-Dodge (http://chryslerjeep.ancira.com/ ) as they diagnosed and repaired every portion of their vehicle. Many issues were discovered and all were repaired. To top it all off, John Scharmann, Ancira’s parts and service director, even treated SPC Garcia to lunch! To further assist the Garcia family, WISH for OUR HEROES contributed a portion of the funds raised at HUMOR FOR HEROES to help the Garcia’s with the many expenses associated with caring for Lauro – diapers, food, etc.
Thanks to Ancira Chrysler-Jeep-Dodge in San Antonio, and HUMOR FOR HEROES, the Garcia family can now travel with peace of mind knowing that their vehicle is safe on the road. Thanks to the generosity of HUMOR FOR HEROES and the Ancira team, WISH for OUR HEROES is one step closer to its ultimate goal of granting one wish for every deserving member of the U.S. military.
