Here’s our post from August 31st that kicked things off:
Fellow Texans and Anyone Around the Country Wanting to Assist: We are working out the details literally by the minute here, but we are putting together a storm relief program to assist with this horrible situation along the Texas coast.
Tomorrow, we will make a supply run down to Port A / Rockport, Aransas Pass, Ingleside, and the other cities at Ground Zero. This was going to be something that we did personally aside from the charity, but after posting on Facebook, the response has been tremendous, so we decided to use our resources through W4OH to assist more people than we could on our own. Thank you to all of those who donated tonight to help us purchase supplies for tomorrow’s run. We picked up a large load of supplies tonight, and tomorrow morning at 7:00 AM we’re meeting at Wal Mart in San Antonio to purchase the remaining supplies A few friends with big trucks volunteered to assist, so now we’re officially a convoy. Thank you, Mike Cameron and Joey Aleman!
Tonight, Tamara Strait from Strait Luxury – Tamara Strait, Realtor, invited W4OH to be part of her event this evening in Boerne, That event raised several thousand dollars, which we will also be using to purchase supplies for these areas. Tamara, you are incredible, and thank you to all those who took part in her awesome event.
Right now, we’re operating out of our pickup trucks, but the Cavalry is on the way. Board member Mike Denman will be driving our large W4OH trailer down from Indy, and will use that trailer to make supply runs over the next several weeks to the these affected areas, and also Houston, when the roads are open. Erich Orrick is working hard in Indy along with Pat McAfee and others to raise a truckload of donations there, which Mike will bring with him when he drives it down. From there, we’ll raise funds (and use our existing funds) to keep resupplying these areas.
Many of these areas will not have power for 3 or 4 weeks, and the needs are tremendous. I can’t guarantee much, but I can guarantee that any donations made for this effort will IMMEDIATELY purchase supplies, and we will see to it that these supplies reach the people that need them. We also have several military families who had their homes completely destroyed and we are working to help them directly.
If you would like to donate, simply go to www.wishforourheroes.org, make a donation and notate ‘Harvey’ on your donation. We’ll do our best to keep everyone updated as we work through this. Thank you SO MUCH to all of you who have stepped forward to assist during this very difficult time. – Jeff Wells
