SPC Hunter Hendrix was scheduled to come home from a deployment in Afghanistan on November 20, 2016. His father, an army veteran who has also been on deployments in the past, knows the importance of family being there when you return home. Because of a recent death in the family, most of their savings had been used to pay funeral expenses. Consequently, the Hendrix family could not afford the trip from Atlanta to welcome their son home. Hunter’s father said, “The only thing I have asked my wife for all year, was to just make sure we are there when my son comes home from Afghanistan.”
Wish for Our Heroes was pleased to grant this wish and bring SPC Hendrix’s family to Fort Carson from Atlanta, GA to see their soldier return home. The family spent a week together, celebrating Thanksgiving and SPC Hendrix’s father’s birthday.
W4OH Florida Chapter paid for the rental car, and Indiana chapter gifted them a $900 Visa gift card for travel expenses and the W4OH Rocky Mountain Chapter paid for the family’s hotel stay for the week at Fort Carson, CO.
This was a true nationwide effort to make this wish come true for the Hendrix Family and W4OH was happy to make it happen.
