Wish for Our Heroes North Florida kicked off 2019 by granting several new wishes for our active-duty military.
Rudy is an E5 currently stationed at NAS Jax. She has served over 10 years in the United States Navy and has completed two deployments. Her husband has also served for 14 years and is currently stationed at Patrol Squadron 10. The couple has a six-year-old daughter with Spinal Muscular Atrophy, which affects the muscles in the body. As a result, she is unable to walk or breathe normally and must use a ventilator. Because the disease is progressive, she is required to use a great deal of medical equipment at all times. Rudy’s wish was to provide her daughter with the means to attend medical appointments freely and with reliable transportation.
Our Gift
Wish for Our Heroes provided the family with the remaining funds needed to modify their van to have a rear entry ramp and wheelchair tie downs installed. The wish totaling $3,000 will ensure the couple’s daughter can safely travel to much-needed appointments.
Gustavo is an E6 from Orlando and he is currently based in Atlanta. He has completed six deployments and serves as a Navy recruiter. In the fall of 2018, Gustavo’s home in Orlando was devastated by Hurricane Michael. His family had been living in hotels ever since the storm, and thankfully they found a new permanent residence in December. Burdened by the financial strain of mounting housing expenses, the father of three reached out for assistance obtaining housing items they lost during the hurricane.
Our Gift
Wish for Our Heroes helped furnish their new home by purchasing new beds for the family, a washer and dryer, dining room set, and other essentials. We were able to cover the wish totaling $3,322.96.
Glenda is an E2 based in Jacksonville who has served in the military for one year. She recently retained custody of her two kids, and she also cares for her grandmother. As a single mom with little family support, Glenda reached out to Wish for Our Heroes for assistance obtaining basic housing needs for her family.
Our Gift
We were happy to be able to help Glenda purchase everything on her wish list, totaling $4,069. With new items including beds for her children, a dining room table and chairs, a washer and dryer, a vacuum, and a couch, the family can now live more comfortably without having to undergo financial hardship.
